The Story of the Family
This blend of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Auxerrois comes from vines planted in sandy soils in the valley below Katzenthal. The family run wine estate Klur has existed since 1999 in its present form, but whose tradition of winegrowing and production leads back to the 17th century. Since 1999 they have been following the principles of biological cultivation, ecology and biodynamic practices and are certified organic.
Nestled in a small valley in the middle of Alsace, the vineyards are protected from the strong westerly winds. Vines average 50 years of age, with deep roots in the soil. These vines produce well structured, complex and full bodied wines. Due to the steepness of the vineyards the harvest is carried out manually, which means pickers can be incredible selective in choosing the healthiest and ripest fruit.
Ecologically, the Klurs do whatever they can to work in harmony with their natural surroundings and reduce their impact on the environment. Natural limestone walls and coats, untreated wooden frames and planks, cork isolation, materials like hemp, wood fibre or clay are utilised where possible. They prohibit the use of non-organic fertiliser, instead use only natural composts.
