Château Champ des Treilles - Bordeaux - 2016
The vineyard is situated about 10 km away from the Chateau de la Mallevieille, between Saint-Emilion and Bergerac. Champ des Treilles’s 10 hectares of vine are planted with all the traditional red and white grapes varieties. The winery is owned by Mr & Mrs Comme both are working in the vineyard but Mr Comme’s working as a senior winemaker for Chateau Pontet-Canet a Grand Cru classe in the Medoc.
The Champ des Treilles is an organic winery (Ecocert since 2007) and biodynamic. They are producing some outstanding wines from close planted vines, 10000/hectares like in the Medoc and harvested by hand in small cagettes. The average age of vines are 35 years old. The total production is about 35ooo bottles/year. She is as well biodynamic consultant for Chateau Climens in Sauternes.
Grand Vin du Champ des Treilles reveals a complex and powerful nose with notes of fruit, liquorice and vanilla. The mouth is full and long with very soft tannins, although still a little firm, which give this wine a lot of nobility.
