Château l'Isle Fort - Bordeaux Supérieur AOP (2013) - Price for 6 bottles
Situated in the small, lesser known commune of Lignan, the vineyard, with its south facing exposure is planted to a vine density of 6,500 vines per hectare. The terroir is clay, limestone and sandy clay soils.
To produce the wine of Chateau l’Isle Fort, the vinification takes place in temperature controlled, stainless steel tanks. The grapes are whole berry fermented. Abandoned for decades, the soils of Château l'Isle had retained their integrity. Fauna and flora had proliferated, allowing the estate to recover its original biodiversity.
It was finally Sylvie Douce and the architect François Jeantet, creators of the Salon du Chocolat, who in 2001 took over the Domaine de l'Isle Fort and rehabilitated it with their children.
They replanted 9 hectares of vines, rebuilt the old tenant farms, reconstructed the lakes and waterfalls, and made horses, cows, sheep, pigs and all sorts of birds live there... Even the bats in the caves which ensure the disinsectisation of the vines...
Deeply-coloured. Expressive nose of ripe red and black fruits with subtle liquorice. On the palate, a full, well-structured palate showing upfront, yet well-integrated tannins. A characterful wine drinking well with roast meats.
