The Story of the Family

As a child in Courteron in the Aube, Erick was fascinated by nature and its riches: the subsoil, the soil and the vines. It was the 1970s and Erick SCHREIBER loved holidays with his paternal grandparents, who owned some vineyard land. Hypersensitive to this environment, the young man from Nantes found a special resonance in this way of life in the very heart of nature. He became interested, discovered, questioned and learned. It was then that he decided to enrol at the Avize viticulture school in the Marne region, which was to help him chart his course.

In the early 1980s, as a young graduate, he settled in Courteron. It was here, on this terroir with a strong identity, that he wanted to create his own house and different Champagne wines by working according to the rules of the art.

Erick SCHREIBER knew that he had to respect nature and the living world, and that they had a lot to teach him. He set up his vineyard in 1981 and took the necessary time, a good ten years, to build “his” vineyard in his own image.

But he was only 20 years old. He was attracted by an original experience that he wanted to learn from. It was at the Domaine Fleury, in Courteron, that Erick began his career. In the early 1980s, along with Jean- Pierre FLEURY and Alain REAUT, they formed the trio of independent winegrower friends who pioneered biodynamic viticulture in Champagne.

As a young worker in the vineyard and vat room, Erick became vineyard and vat room manager and played an active part in the development of the wines over 28 years of collaboration. He excels at creating wines. The three friends share the same vision and support each other. Until 2019, they will vinify and mature their Champa- gnes together.
This biodynamic trio is a forerunner not only in Champagne, but also in the French wine industry, where they support winegrowers’ initiatives. Together and ahead of their time, they have overcome the doubts of conventional growers.
